Board of Advisors

Bedi A. Singh  President Finance and Administration, Co-CEO MGM Studios Inc.


Mr. Singh is currently the Co-CEO of MGM where he has overall responsibility for the firm’s financial activities. His responsibilities include the oversight of the studio’s relationship with the banking and finance community as well as overseeing MGM’s strategic financial planning, human resources departments and information system functions. He plays a key role in enhancing MGM’s operations for future growth.

Prior to joining MGM Studios, Mr. Singh contributed to the rebuilding of Gemstar-TV Guide where he served as Executive Vice President and CFO. Prior to joining Gemstar, Mr. Singh served as Chief Finance and Administration Officer for pharmaceutical company Novartis Pharma A.G.,based in Basel, Switzerland. From 1999-2003, Mr. Singh was Executive Vice President and CFO of Sony Pictures Entertainment in Los Angeles, a division of Sony Corporation. Before joining Sony Pictures Entertainment, Mr. Singh spent nine years at Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp,serving in senior financial roles, including Financial Controller at News International plc, based in London, Senior Vice President Office of the Chairman, and Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President Strategic Planning at Fox Filmed Entertainment, based in Los Angeles.

Mr. Singh began his finance career with Arthur Andersen AND Co. in London in 1980. He spent 11 years with the global accounting and consulting firm, working in London as senior audit manager, and also in Andersen’s Lagos, Nigeria, office on major consulting and accounting assignments. A graduate of the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School in 1994, Mr. Singh earned a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1980. Mr. Singh is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Jeff Drazan


Jeff is Managing Partner Bertram Capital, he oversees Business Services, Manufacturing & Operations and Technology investments. Jeff was previously a co-founder and Managing Director of Sierra Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm with $1.5 billion under management. Prior to Sierra, Jeff served in a variety of operations and R&D management positions at both AT&T and Bell Laboratories.

Jeff has served as a Director of Centex Telemanagement (CNTX – Acquired by MFS), Stratacom (STRM – Acquired by Cisco), On Assignment (ASGN), Micromuse (MUSE – Acquired by IBM), ConvergeNet (Acquired by Dell), Combinet (Acquired by Cisco), Quinta (Acquired by Seagate), Vertel (VRTL), ParAcer (Acquired by StratosLightwave), FrontBridge (Acquired by MicroSoft), Sychip (Acquired by Murata), Micro Power (Acquired by Westin Presidio) and Digital Generation Systems (DGIT). He currently serves as a Director of numerous public and private companies, including American Fiber Systems, Valere Power, Theravance (THRX), Element Labs, and AuthorHouse.

Jeff has a B.S. in Engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from NYU, Stern School of Business Administration.

 

Ram Gupta


Mr. Gupta is the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors at Cast Iron Systems. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Sourceforge Inc and serves on the Board of Directors at S1 Corporation, Progress Software, Yodlee Inc and Platform Technologies.

Mr. Gupta brings over 20 years strategy and execution expertise at fast-paced global technology companies, including PeopleSoft, WebMD, Silicon Graphics, IBM and Tata Consultancy Services. He holds several patents in the U.S. and was awarded the Smithsonian Computer World “Search for the Heroes” Award for the year 2000. Mr. Gupta holds an MS degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and he graduated with Honors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani, India.

Previously, Mr. Gupta was the President and CEO of Cast Iron Systems. During his tenure, Cast Iron Systems became the largest vendor of application integration appliances. Both the revenue and the customer base grew over 300%.

Before that Mr. Gupta was the Executive Vice President at PeopleSoft responsible for strategy, marketing, development, customer support, alliances and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Gupta was instrumental in taking the company from primarily an HR applications vendor in the U.S., to the second largest vendor of application suites worldwide. During this time the market capitalization of the company grew from $3 billion to over $10 billion. Mr. Gupta was also the executive in charge of the company’s $1.8 billion acquisition of JD Edwards that set off the consolidation trend in the ERP industry.

Prior to PeopleSoft, Mr. Gupta was the Senior Vice President and General Manager at WebMD Corp. He was part of the executive team that grew WebMD from a single service, $5 million annual revenue startup to a public company with a set of comprehensive offerings and revenue of more than $300 million. Before that Mr. Gupta held various leadership positions at Silicon Graphics, IBM and Tata Consultancy Services.

 

Rahul N. Merchant


Mr. Merchant is an Operating Partner at Exigen Capital Management, LLC. Previously, he served as an Executive Vice President, Chief Information Officer, and Member of the Executive Committee of Fannie Mae from November 2006 to September 2008. Mr. Merchant was responsible for build-out and management of Fannie Mae’s technology operations and networks, designing and building new technology platforms to support the businesses, development of the internet technology architecture, and internet technology risk management. He has a strong background in Information Technology and Systems, and in the financial services sector. He served as Global Head of Risk Technology of Merrill Lynch from 2000 to 2004. Mr. Merchant was responsible for the technology and platform support of Merrill Lynch’s three main divisions. In addition, he supported global acquisitions in different business areas, and negotiated third-party contracts with large vendors. Mr. Merchant also supported the Merrill Lynch’s compliance with regulatory requirements, including SOX, and developed technology initiatives and provided senior counsel to more fully integrate and optimize its business strategies. He worked with the Merrill Lynch ‘s senior bankers and financial advisors, providing insight on technology trends and challenges. He served as Executive Vice President of Dresdner Kleinwort Benson North America, from 1998 to 2000. Mr. Merchant served as Senior Vice President of Sanwa Financial Products, from 1994 to 1998 and from 1993 to 1994, he served as First Vice President of Lehman Brothers, Inc. He served as control systems programmer of Leeds AND Northrop Company since 1980.

He holds an impressive track record in working with some of the world’s leading financial powerhouses. His expertise lies in creating strategies for financial companies and incorporating progressive technology to support business goals. Mr. Merchant is a Director of Level3 Communications Inc. since October 1, 2009 and a Director of Netuitive, Inc. since June 2008. He serves as a Member of Advisory Board of Persistent Systems, since September 2, 2009 and a Director of GCI Software. He served as Director of UBICS Inc., from May 2000 to October 2002.

He serves on the board of advisors of the American India Foundation. Mr. Merchant holds a Bachelor of Science, in Electrical Engineering from Bombay University, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Memphis State University and a Master of Business Administration from Temple University.

 

Joe Simon


Joe Simon is currently the Chief Technology Officer for Condé Nast where he is responsible for digital and technology operations with focus on innovation and the development of the next generation of digital products and services.

Mr. Simon previously held the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer position at Viacom, the world’s leading entertainment content company. In this role, he was responsible for the design, implementation, and continued successful operation of technology programs throughout the company’s worldwide offices.

During his tenure, Mr. Simon successfully created and supported an advanced technological infrastructure to support the increasingly complex businesses during a period of intense growth. Mr. Simon joined Viacom in 1998 as Senior Vice President for Information Technology Operations.

Prior to Viacom, Mr. Simon spent nine years as a principal at Booz, Allen and Hamilton, focusing on the media sector. He also held executive roles at Reader’s Digest and for various business concerns in New Zealand and India, where he also earned a master’s of business administration.

 

Subbu Subramaniam


Mr. Subbu Subramaniam was an Investment Partner with Baring Private Equity Partners (India) Limited. Previously he was Chief Executive Officer of First India Asset Management Company Ltd., a joint venture between First Leasing Company of India Ltd. and Guinness Flight Global Asset Management of UK, where he managed a listed equity fund dedicated to South India. This fund was rated the best performing India fund by Micropal in August 1998. Prior to this, he was with Bank of America, handling treasury services based in Mumbai. He also managed a currency fund floated by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, UAE.

He is a Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant, Corporate Secretary and has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Mr. Subramaniam has spoken at various investment forums like FICCI, ASSOCHAM, TIE, CII, Indian Venture Capital Association. Over the years Mr. Subramaniam has been a guest faculty member at Professional Institutes in India such as The Chartered Accountants and The Cost Accountants Institute. In addition to being fluent in English, he speaks six Indian languages.

Mr. Subramaniam has served on various boards including MphasiS BFL Limited, Slashsupport, Cybernet Software Systems, Jyothy Laboratories Limited, and SRA Systems Limited, SecovaeServices Limited, Auro Mira Energy Company Private Limited, GI Terminal I-Tech Private Limited and Integra Software Services Private Limited. At MphasiS BFL he has initiated and instituted comprehensive corporate governance standards as chairman of Audit Committee.
